The process of paying for the item you want to buy is often longer than the process of taking the item off the shelves in the store. So in supermarkets, there are special payment counters for customers who buy less than 10 items. But this is still considered not to solve the issue of wasted time queuing. Starbucks this week opened the first coffee shop to not have a checkout counter.

The coffee shop that opened in New York uses the name Starbucks Pickup to distinguish it from regular stores. Amazon Go technology is used where customers only need to scan a device or palm at the entrance. Payments will be deducted directly from the user’s account after the scan is done and they can pick up items directly from the shelf before going straight out.

Starbucks will open two more Starbucks Pickup stores in 2022 to see if it can increase sales. The pandemic handler caused sales to plummet until stores closed as well as due to a shortage of workers.
