Global Video Game Sales In March Hit $10 Billion

Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has become a global problem. One of the few industries to see an increase in demand and sales worldwide is the video game industry.

The Nielsen SuperData report says that as of March 2020 alone, video game sales, including gaming consoles and software, are at $10 billion worldwide.

In software alone, we can see massive number in sales among the popular games sold last month. This include the Nintendo Switch’s Animal Crossing, of which 5 million copies have been sold. Also, not to forget Doom Eternal has 3 million copies sold since its release.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has been sold 3.5 million copies in the first three days of release. This is not included in the report since it was launch mid-April.

Call of Duty: Warzone, a free to play game also saw 63 million active users. These players, many of them were seen buying cosmetic accessories with real money in the game.

Expenditure on console games increased 64 percent compared to the previous month, from $883 million to $1.5 billion, while computer game spending increased 56 percent from $ 363 million to $567 million.

The report also shows a drastic increase in spending for the mobile gaming industry. In March 2020 alone, year-on-year sales for the industry increased to $ 5.8 billion, making it a very lucrative industry.
