WhatsApp has introduced a biometric login function for accessing the WhatsApp Web or Desktop. This function is an addition to the existing login method which is by QR code verification.

Users can now sign in via fingerprint scanning and face recognition from smartphones if they want to open WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop on PC. This means iPhone users can also do so using Touch ID or Face ID.

This biometric verification can be done through the Link A Device section in WhatsApp, just before you scan the QR code on WhatsApp Web or Desktop.

According to the FAQ, WhatsApp will not read biometric information because the verification process is done through the operating system of the device.

The WABetaInfo site informs that this biometric verification process is done using the API system. Thus, it complicates the process of taking out the information that has been stored in the operating system.

This latest function will be launched to all users in stages.
