How to fix Full Storage issues in Windows 10 PC

If you find that your Windows 10 computer is experiencing a full hard disk problem, you can do some ways to free up space on it for the use of other files.

At some point, you may find that your hard disk is full of different types of files and this makes it difficult for you to install new software or to download files.

Although hard disk prices have now fallen into the affordable category, due to time and financial constraints in the near future requires you to take temporary settlement steps to find spaces that can be emptied in your hard disk.

Delete Files that make the hard disk full

The simplest way that does not need to be explained to the average user using a computer is to delete files that are no longer needed. You can go to the files and select to ‘permanently delete’ by pressing the ‘Delete’ key while holding the ‘Shift’ key. The files will be continuously deleted without the need to go through the ‘Recycle Bin’.

Apart from the method mentioned earlier, there is another way that can be used to delete unnecessary files in Windows 10. The trick is to go to the Start button, then go to Settings> System> Storage. Click on your main hard disk at the top of the window. Windows 10 will determine the types of files on your hard disk and how much space has been used.

Files will be sorted by type such as Documents, Photos and Music. Click on any of the file types and look at any files that you feel need to be deleted.

Uninstall an application that is no longer in use

You may not need some applications that you yourself rarely use. The way to uninstall it is to go to the Start button, then go to Settings> System> Apps & features. Organize your applications by size and then you can uninstall any available applications using a large space. However, if you feel hesitant to delete apps that you feel are important, you better leave them alone.

Clear the Recycle Bin

This thing is most often overlooked by most users. By default, any type of deleted file can still be retrieved if it is still in the Recycle Bin. But, once you reach a certain level, your Recycle Bin can be full and you need to clear it.

You can clear it by going to the Recycle Bin and deleting the files in it one by one. Or, you can delete it all at once by right-clicking on the Recycle Bin icon and going to ‘Empty Recyle Bin’.

Change Microsoft OneDrive settings

For those of you who use the Microsoft OneDrive service to synchronize between the files on your hard disk and those in the cloud, you need to do some settings to clear the space on your hard disk.

By default, your OneDrive files are stored on your computer as well as in OneDrive cloud storage. But you can change this setting by right-clicking on the OneDrive icon in the Windows system tray, select Settings> Choose folders. Clear the space to mark any folders you do not want stored on your computer and then click OK.

Windows Disk Cleanup tool

Last but not least, use the Windows Disk Cleanup tool that has been used since the Windows XP era. The way to access it in Windows 10 is to search in the App list, then open the Windows Administrative Tools folder, and select Disk Cleanup. Next Disk Cleanup will list the file categories along with their size once. Select any file that you feel takes up a lot of space on your hard disk.
